The Workshop on Mental Health was organized by the Staff Development Centre and the Health Centre at the University of Vavuniya on September 26, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon in the UBL Board Room, Library Building. The workshop targeted student counsellors, marshals, sub-wardens, the Deputy Registrar for Students and Welfare, the proctor, as well as permanent and temporary academic and academic support staff.
Dr. S. Suthakaran, a psychiatrist from the General Hospital in Vavuniya, gave a presentation. Dr. S. Sathiyalingam, a medical officer from the Health Centre, also presented. A total of 28 participants attended. They discussed how to improve mental health awareness and support within the university community.The workshop raised awareness about mental health. Participants received useful information and tools to help themselves and support others. Open discussions encouraged staff to seek help when needed. The university should continue to provide mental health resources and support.
