Gender Equity and Equality Policy Framework
The University of Vavuniya gender equity and equality policy guides how the university promotes equal opportunities and prevents sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The 24th Council approved it on 7th October 2023.
What the Policy Covers
The framework applies to all students, staff and visitors. It defines sexual violence, sexual harassment, gender equity and gender equality. It also covers gender mainstreaming, which means considering gender in every plan and activity.
Who Puts It into Practice
The Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) carries out the framework through its committees. These include a Working Committee, a Grievances Sub-committee, and a Resource Mobilization, Education and Evaluation Sub-committee. Each year, they report their progress, and the university publishes the reports on its website. For national guidance, see the University Grants Commission.
