The Staff Development Centre of the University of Vavuniya conducted a workshop titled “Workshop on the Accreditation Process” on June 18, 2025, from 01:30 PM to 03:30 PM at the Smart Lecture Hall, Faculty of Applied Sciences. Prof. Suresh Surendran, Visiting Professor in Environmental Risk and Sustainable Development, Faculty of Business Studies served as the resource person for this session. Aimed at academic, academic support, and administrative staff, the primary objective of the workshop was to present a professional initiative focused on enhancing the quality and global recognition of university degree programs. Prof. Suresh Surendran introduced key aspects of accreditation, including institutional and programmatic (module-based) processes, and emphasized its benefits in promoting excellence in education. He discussed how accreditation aligns with core competencies in technical project management, strategic and business management, and leadership. A significant part of the session was dedicated to explaining, step by step, how the Department of Project Management successfully carried out its own accreditation process, serving as a model for best practices. This detailed explanation encouraged other departments to initiate and pursue accreditation for their respective programs. The session also covered the development of innovative and sustainable curricula designed to meet present and future educational needs, with real-world examples and emerging tools offering participants practical insights into applying accreditation standards to enhance academic quality and institutional competitiveness. Ms. S. Mathivathany, Head of the Department of Project Management, who outlined the step-by-step accreditation journey undertaken by her department, serving as a model for best practices. She expressed her gratitude to the departmental staff for their dedication and teamwork, which played a vital role in the success of the process. Prof.Y.Nanthgopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies also addressed the gathering, encouraging other departments to engage in the accreditation process and praising the efforts of Prof. Suresh Surendran, Ms. Mathivathany, and their team for their leadership and achievements. During the interactive session, participants raised important questions about accreditation documentation, review criteria, timelines, and curriculum alignment.
