The Induction Training Programme for the newly recruited Security Guard Grade III officers was successfully conducted at the University of Vavuniya on 01 June 2026. The programme was organized to introduce the new security guards to the university system and to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to perform their duties effectively.
The programme commenced with a session conducted by Dr. M. Kayan, Acting Vice Chancellor. He welcomed the participants and provided an introduction to the University of Vavuniya, its vision, mission, and organizational structure. He also emphasized the importance of discipline, responsibility, and professionalism in maintaining a safe and secure university environment.
The second session was conducted by Mr. R. Jeyakumar, Acting Registrar, on University Affairs. He explained the administrative structure of the university and the importance of teamwork among academic and non-academic staff in achieving the goals of the institution.
The next session was conducted by Ms. T. Piranavamalar, Assistant Registrar of the General Administration Branch. She explained the roles and responsibilities of security guards in the university system, including maintaining security, protecting university property, monitoring access to buildings, and assisting students, staff, and visitors when necessary.
This was followed by a session conducted by Mr. U.D.P. Weerasena, Security Inspector Grade II. He shared practical knowledge on security duties, reporting procedures, emergency situations, and maintaining vigilance while on duty. He also discussed the importance of punctuality, discipline, and proper communication in security services.
After the lunch interval, Ms. J.S. Thevaruban, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, introduced the Faculty of Business Studies and explained its academic programmes and activities. She highlighted the role of security staff in supporting a safe learning environment for students and staff.
The following session was conducted by Mr.R.Sakuntharaj, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Technological Studies, on Digital Workplace Essentials. He explained the importance of digital communication, the use of technology in daily work, and maintaining professionalism when using digital platforms.
Thereafter, Mr. N. Arumugathash, Deputy Registrar of the Student Welfare Division, conducted a session on the career path of security guards in the university system. He explained opportunities for career development, promotions, and the importance of continuous learning and dedication in the workplace.
The final session was conducted by Mr. M. Arunshankar, Deputy Registrar of the Establishments Branch. He discussed Human Resource Administration and Staff Regulations in the University System. The participants were informed about university rules, staff rights and responsibilities, leave procedures, and other important employment-related matters.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from all newly recruited security guards. The training programme provided valuable knowledge about the university system, security responsibilities, staff regulations, and career development opportunities. It helped the participants gain a better understanding of their duties and prepared them to serve the University of Vavuniya effectively and professionally.
