On 28 September 2022, the Vaazhvaham students visit SCPD event took place at the Support Center for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), University of Vavuniya. The Jaffna Vaazhvaham team attended the program with 35 participants. The group included the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and students of Vaazhvaham.
This visit program aimed to strengthen cooperation between Vaazhvaham and the university. The visit also focused on improving support for students with disabilities, especially students with visual impairments.
Prof. T. Mangaleshwarn welcomed the Vaazhvaham team and introduced the objectives of SCPD. He explained how the center creates equal educational opportunities for differently abled students. He also highlighted the importance of inclusive education and accessibility in higher education institutions.
During the event, Ms. P. Godwin Phillip presented the current activities and services of the center. She explained the support available for students with disabilities and shared details about awareness programs and accessibility initiatives.
V. Supramanium described the future action plans of SCPD. He discussed upcoming projects, student support activities, and collaboration opportunities with social organizations such as Vaazhvaham.
The Vaazhvaham students visit SCPD program also created opportunities for discussion between both teams. They discussed future partnerships that focus on visually impaired students and staff members. The discussion included educational support, assistive technology, awareness campaigns, and community outreach activities.
A special highlight of the Vaazhvaham students visit SCPD event was the selection of two school students from Vavuniya for free spectacles. Vaazhvaham organized this initiative to support students with visual difficulties. Prof. T. Mangaleshwarn handed over the spectacles during the event.
The Vaazhvaham students visit SCPD initiative strengthened the relationship between Vaazhvaham and SCPD. The visit also encouraged future collaboration to support persons with disabilities through education, awareness, and social service activities.
