Overview

The Staff Development Centre conducted a University Employees Career Prospects Workshop titled “University Employees: Career Prospects, Leave Procedures, and Other Fringe Benefits.” The session was held for Management Assistants, Technical Officers, and Works Aides on 19 August 2026. It ran from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the E-Resource Section, 2nd Floor, Library Building, University of Vavuniya.

Resource Persons

The programme was facilitated by Mr. R. Jeyakumar, Acting Registrar, University of Vavuniya, along with Mr. M. Arunshankar, Deputy Registrar, Establishment Branch. Together, they served as resource persons for the session.

Career Guidance Session

Mr. R. Jeyakumar provided guidance on career prospects and job fit. He also covered workplace responsibilities, personality development, and managing workplace challenges. In addition, he spoke about career progression. As a result, participants were encouraged to reflect on their long-term professional goals. They also gained insight into how individual roles support the university’s broader objectives.

Leave Procedures and Regulations

Next, Mr. M. Arunshankar explained leave entitlements and relevant regulations. He also outlined attendance requirements and administrative procedures. Furthermore, his presentation clarified common misunderstandings around leave applications. It covered approval processes and required documentation as well. Consequently, participants left with a clearer picture of their entitlements and responsibilities.

Interactive Discussion

The workshop included interactive sessions and open discussions. These allowed participants to raise questions directly. They also received practical, first-hand information from the resource persons. Because of this format, employees left with clear, actionable answers rather than generic guidance.
