An awareness session on the use of computer technology by persons with visual impairments was conducted on Monday, 18 May 2026, for the fourth-year Computer Science students of the University of Vavuniya. The session was delivered by Mr S. Yogathas, a serving staff member of the Ramakrishna Mission, Batticaloa, and was organized by Dr. Nagulan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science.  Mr. I. Hariharan, Lecturer in the Department of Physical Science, was also present throughout the session and participated in the demonstration. His presence and support contributed to the smooth conduct of the programme and facilitated the interaction between the presenter and the students.

The primary objective of the session was to provide students with an understanding of how persons with visual impairments effectively utilize computer technology in the modern digital environment. The discussion covered a range of topics, including assistive technologies available for visually impaired users, the role and functionality of screen readers, practical methods of using these tools, and various software applications commonly employed to enhance accessibility and digital inclusion.

The session offered students valuable insights into the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals and the technological solutions that enable independent access to information, communication, education, and employment. Students actively participated in the discussion and demonstrated keen interest in learning about accessible computing practices and inclusive technology design.
