Training Program on the Concept of Harmony & Reconciliation 22&23/01/2022

A training program for the Management Committee members was organised by the Institute of National Security Studies and the Harmony Centre. It was held on January 22 and 23, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Institute’s conference room at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), 8th Floor, Suhurupaya, Battaramulla, Sri Lanka, with the goal of giving participants the chance to experience and learn about Harmony practices and to gain knowledge.

The Institute of National Security Studies’ Director, Professor Rohan Gunaratna, was instrumental in setting up the training programme. This programme included thirteen (13) participants, comprising nine (09) students from all three faculties and four (04) faculty members.

Future Ready Youth Leadership – Residential Training

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Centre for Leadership Development (NCLD), Yodagama, Empilipitiya, and the Harmony Centre of the University of Vavuniya jointly sponsored a five-day residential training programme for future-ready youth leaders. In total, 149 participants from the University of Vavuniya attended. They represented every field of study and every ethnic and religious background.

This Harmony Centre Training Programme covered a wide range of activities. These included group activities, physical activities, leadership training, a meditation programme, physical fitness activities, in- and outbound training, and personal development. As a result, participants gained valuable skills for personal, regional, and national development.

Mr. A.B.M. Ashraf, Director of NCLD, delivered the welcoming address at the inauguration ceremony. Several distinguished principal guests also attended. Prof. T. Mangaleshwaran, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, was among them. Mr. Anuratha Vijayakone, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, also attended. Furthermore, Prof. Premakumara de Silva, Chairman of the Standing Committee on SRC, University Grants Commission, and Prof. Shanthi Nandhana Wijesinghe, Chairperson of the Training, Education and Research Committee of the Harmony Centre, joined as principal guests. Each guest spoke about how young people can contribute to improving the country. They then continued the day’s activities with personal, regional, and national development training programmes.
