The Staff Development Centre, in collaboration with the University Research Committee, conducted Research Talk Series – 1 on 17 June 2026 at the University of Vavuniya. Prof. A. Nanthakumaran, Professor in Environmental Science, Department of Bio-Science, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Vavuniya. delivered a presentation on a case study of Paederus fuscipes (acid fly) infestation in the university hostels, highlighting its health impacts, research findings, and ecological causes. The session discussed the identification of the insect, the prevalence of Paederus dermatitis among hostel residents, and practical recommendations to reduce infestations through environmental management, awareness, and preventive measures. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, enhancing research awareness and knowledge sharing among staff members.
