University of Vavuniya conducted the PLO ILO Mapping Workshop. Prof. H.M.A. Herath, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, served as the resource person for this workshop. His expertise guided participants through the key concepts and practices of PLO ILO Mapping in higher education.
PLO ILO Mapping is an essential process in curriculum design and quality assurance. PLO stands for Programme Learning Outcomes, while ILO stands for Intended Learning Outcomes. Together, they help universities ensure that their course content and assessment methods align with the overall goals of each academic programme. Furthermore, PLO ILO Mapping supports institutions in meeting national and international quality standards set by bodies such as the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka.
This workshop gave academic staff a clear understanding of how to map ILOs to PLOs effectively. Participants learned how to identify the links between individual course outcomes and broader programme goals. Moreover, they explored practical methods for documenting and reviewing these alignments. As a result, staff gained the skills needed to strengthen curriculum design across all faculties of the University of Vavuniya.
Prof. H.M.A. Herath brought valuable experience from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka to the PLO ILO Mapping Workshop. His practical examples and interactive approach helped participants apply the concepts directly to their own programmes. In addition, the collaboration between CQA and the Staff Development Centre ensured that the workshop addressed both quality assurance and professional development needs of the academic staff.
The University of Vavuniya remains committed to improving curriculum quality through initiatives like the PLO ILO Mapping Workshop. Such events play a vital role in building staff capacity and enhancing the overall quality of academic programmes.
