The NEDA Visit University of Vavuniya took place on 10th March at 8.45 a.m. The Chairperson of the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) and the NEDA team met with the university team at the Board Room of the IT Centre. The purpose of this NEDA Visit to the University of Vavuniya was to discuss matters related to Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development and future collaboration.

The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between the university and NEDA. Key topics included promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and SME development initiatives. Several senior officials from both institutions attended the meeting. These included the Chairperson of NEDA, the Director of the University Business Linkage (UBL), the Bursar, Senior Lecturers, the Acting Registrar, the Career Guidance Counsellor, the Assistant Director (Enterprise Promotion), the District Secretary (NEDA), the District Vidatha Officer, and Members of the UBL Advisory Board.

The NEDA Visit to the University of Vavuniya highlighted the growing importance of university-industry partnerships in driving regional economic development. NEDA plays a key role in supporting SMEs across Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the University of Vavuniya has been actively building its capacity to support entrepreneurship and business development in the Northern Province. As a result, this meeting opened doors for meaningful collaboration between both institutions.

Both parties expressed strong interest in developing joint programmes and initiatives. These may include entrepreneurship training, SME mentoring, business incubation support, and knowledge-sharing activities. Moreover, the university’s UBL Advisory Board brings together experienced professionals who can contribute significantly to SME development in the region. Consequently, this partnership has the potential to create real economic opportunities for communities in Northern Sri Lanka.
