The University of Vavuniya has been selected as a partner institution to establish an Incubation Centre for Food Innovation. A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology visited the university on 11th July 2025 to conduct a formal site inspection. Mr. Y. I. M. Navavi, Secretary to the Ministry, led the visiting team.
About the Incubation Centre Food Innovation Initiative
The Ministry of Science and Technology launched this Incubation Centre Food Innovation project as a national pilot initiative in 2025. The University of Vavuniya stands as one of the selected partner institutions for this landmark programme. The centre will focus on sustainable food solutions and support regional inventors and entrepreneurs.
The primary objective is to provide access to:
- Product testing facilities
- Advanced technology and specialised equipment
- Value-added services for food entrepreneurs
- Support for regional inventors and innovators
This initiative will directly benefit the Vanni Region by creating a hub for food innovation and entrepreneurship.
