The University of Vavuniya recently held an important discussion on improving English language skills. The meeting was productive and encouraging. Furthermore, it opened new doors for collaboration between universities.

Visit by Ms. Jennifer – English Language Fellow

Ms. Jennifer is an English Language Fellow from the U.S. Government. She is assigned to the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT) at the University of Jaffna. Moreover, she visited our DELT at the University of Vavuniya following a communication from the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

The U.S. Ambassador recently visited our university. He launched the AV Unit funded by USAID. As a result, this visit strengthened the relationship between the two universities.

Planned Seminars and Workshops

During her visit, we held a productive discussion. She agreed to conduct four seminars and workshops for both students and staff. Therefore, students and staff members will greatly benefit from this collaboration.

Student workshops will focus on:

  • Enhancing speaking skills in management contexts
  • Improving writing skills relevant to science subjects

Staff workshops will cover:

  • ELT strategies for DELT staff
  • Academic writing skills
  • TOEFL preparation for junior staff across all faculties
