The Faculty of Applied Science at the University of Vavuniya held the FARS 2022 on 3rd November 2022. The theme was “A Gateway towards Modern Science.” Furthermore, the event called for extended abstract submissions from academics, research scholars, and students.

The faculty also conducted the second Annual Student Research Congress (ASRC2022) as part of FARS2022. Moreover, AHEAD ELTA-ELSE Faculty Development Project funded ASRC2022. Undergraduates from Sri Lankan universities contributed research works as abstracts and posters.

Researchers submitted their work under six tracks. These included Agriculture, Forestry and Biodiversity, and Computer Science and Information Technology. Additionally, Environmental Science and Climate Change, Mathematics and Statistics, Natural Sciences, and Software Engineering and Information Systems were covered.

Two distinguished keynote speakers addressed the conference. Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Chair Professor of Food Science from University of Peradeniya, delivered a keynote. Similarly, Dr. Sivananthan Sarasanandarajah, Senior Scientist at Peter Mac Callum Cancer and Research Institute, Australia, also spoke.

The inauguration ceremony and poster session took place in person. However, oral presentations used pre-recorded videos. Consequently, technical sessions ran via Zoom with live Q&A. For more on research in Sri Lanka, visit the National Science Foundation.
