The University of Vavuniya held a special ceremonial function on 1st January 2026. This event marked the Commencement of Work 2026. Senior leadership and staff gathered to formally begin the New Year with dedication and public service.
Professor A. Atputharajah, the Vice-Chancellor, led the Commencement of Work 2026 ceremony. The Deans of Faculties, the Registrar, the Bursar, and all staff members attended. Their presence reflected the university’s commitment to unity, discipline, and national values for the new academic and administrative year.
The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar jointly hoisted the national flag and the university flag to open the function. The gathering then sang the national anthem together. This set a solemn and patriotic tone for the proceedings.
The Registrar read the Public Servants’ Oath as a key highlight of the Commencement of Work 2026. All staff members of the University of Vavuniya solemnly followed the oath. They reaffirmed their commitment to serving the public with integrity, impartiality, and dedication in the year ahead.
