On 29th October 2025, the Well-Being Centre of the University of Vavuniya successfully conducted a Cancer Awareness Workshop. Moreover, the programme ran from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. It took place at Project Management Lecture Hall 2, Faculty of Business Studies. Furthermore, the Centre organized this Cancer Awareness Workshop to raise awareness among university staff. Specifically, it focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.

Expert Session by Dr. P. Anushanthini

Dr. P. Anushanthini, Medical Officer in Charge for NCD in Vavuniya District, delivered the session in Tamil. Firstly, she provided comprehensive information on common types of cancer. Secondly, she explained associated risk factors. In addition, she highlighted early warning signs and preventive strategies.

Key Focus: Early Detection and Healthy Living

Notably, the workshop emphasized the significance of early detection. Likewise, it stressed the need for timely medical consultation. Furthermore, Dr. Anushanthini discussed lifestyle measures. These include balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and stress management. As a result, participants gained practical tools for healthier living.

Interactive Participation and Engagement

The workshop actively encouraged participation throughout the session. In particular, staff members asked questions and shared experiences. Additionally, they clarified misconceptions about cancer and its prevention. Moreover, the organizers distributed educational materials. Consequently, these resources reinforced key messages and supported continued learning.

Strong Staff Turnout

Overall, 22 staff members attended the programme. Of these, 15 came from academic roles. Similarly, 7 represented non-academic roles. Therefore, the turnout reflected strong engagement from both teaching and administrative divisions of the university.

Future Plans of the Well-Being Centre

Looking ahead, the Well-Being Centre plans to continue organizing similar health awareness programmes. Ultimately, these sessions will further promote the physical and mental well-being of university staff. In conclusion, such initiatives form part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment. As a result, they help foster a healthier, more informed, and proactive university community.
