Vavuniya University Plantation 2021: Tree Planting on Campus

The Vavuniya University Plantation 2021 programme brought staff, students and officials together to plant trees on the grounds of the University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. The gallery below shows photos from the event, from the opening ritual to the planting itself. [Add the exact date of the event.]

Opening Ceremony

The programme began with a short ceremony. Participants gathered around a decorated table with a lit lamp and offerings, and they prayed for the success of the programme. A banner at the site announced the plantation programme to everyone present.

Planting the Saplings

After the ceremony, participants moved across the campus grounds to plant young saplings. Staff members and students dug the holes, set the plants in the soil and watered them. Officials joined in as well, and a tractor on site helped with the work. [Add the number of saplings and the types of trees planted.]

Why the Plantation Programme Matters

Planting trees makes the campus greener and cooler, and it gives shade and shelter for years to come. The programme also shows the university’s care for the environment and teaches students the value of protecting nature. As a new university, Vavuniya is building a campus that will grow along with its students.
