The Leadership Lessons Workshop University of Vavuniya was successfully organized by the Career Guidance Unit on 19 December 2025. It was held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at TLH 2, Faculty of Technological Studies.

The session focused on leadership insights from global technology companies. These included Amazon, Y Combinator, and Meta.

Mr. Ashwin Balamohan conducted the session. He works as an Engineering Manager at Meta, USA, and serves as a Venture Scout at Nanthi Venture. He shared global industry experience and practical leadership knowledge.

The Leadership Lessons Workshop University of Vavuniya highlighted important leadership principles. These included customer obsession, innovation, ownership, and data-driven decision-making.

In addition, Amazon leadership culture was discussed in detail. It emphasizes accountability and continuous improvement.

Similarly, Y Combinator practices were explained during the session. They focus on experimentation, mentorship, and resilience.

Furthermore, Meta’s work culture was presented to the students. It encourages collaboration, speed, and learning from failure.

Students gained real-world understanding through examples and case studies.

Student Engagement and Interaction

The session was highly interactive. Therefore, students actively participated in discussions and asked many questions.

In addition, they discussed career pathways, leadership skills in the ICT sector, startup ecosystems, and global job opportunities.

A total of 245 students participated in the programme. This strong participation showed high student interest in leadership and innovation topics.

As a result, the workshop improved students’ understanding of industry expectations. It also encouraged them to develop leadership skills alongside technical knowledge.

Conclusion

Overall, the event was highly successful. It aligned with the Career Guidance Unit’s goal of connecting academia with industry.

The session motivated ICT undergraduates to aim for global standards in leadership and innovation. It also strengthened their awareness of real-world leadership practices.
