The Staff Development Centre of the University of Vavuniya organised a workshop on “Scholarship & Fellowship Opportunities Overseas” on 05 August 2025. It was held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Smart Lecture Hall, Faculty of Applied Science.
The workshop was conducted for Academic, Academic Support, and Executive staff. It aimed to provide guidance on international scholarship and fellowship opportunities.
The session was led by Dr. Sabesan Sithamparanathan OBE, founder and president of PervasID. He is also a recipient of the Queen’s Award for his contributions to research and entrepreneurship.
During the session, Dr. Sabesan shared key strategies for career success. He also emphasized the importance of international exposure for academic staff. This helps improve research skills, institutional growth, and global collaboration.
In addition, he explained various scholarship opportunities for master’s and PhD programmes. Professional development schemes were also discussed.
Furthermore, the session covered how to identify suitable supervisors. It also explained how to prepare strong CVs and write effective applications.
Participants actively engaged in the discussion. They clarified their doubts about global scholarship programmes. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and beneficial for all attendees.
