About the workshop

Developed by the Faculty of Education at the University of Vavuniya, this workshop draws on the foundational principles of Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy — fostering independence, intrinsic motivation, and holistic development in young children. Rooted in decades of research and practice, the Montessori method treats every child as a naturally curious and capable learner who thrives when given the freedom to explore at their own pace.

Participants will engage in guided sessions covering prepared learning environments, sensorial materials, child observation techniques, and age-appropriate activity design for children aged 2 to 9. The programme is conducted by experienced faculty members and certified Montessori practitioners who bring both academic knowledge and classroom experience to every session.

Who should attend

This workshop is open to pre-school and primary school teachers seeking to integrate Montessori teaching methods into their practice, as well as childcare professionals, nursery staff, education students, and fresh graduates entering the field of early childhood education. Parents who wish to apply Montessori principles at home and school administrators exploring curriculum development are also warmly welcome to participate.

What you will learn

By the end of this workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of the core principles of the Montessori method of education and how to apply them in real learning settings. You will learn how to design and set up a Montessori-inspired learning environment, select and use sensorial and language materials effectively, and observe children’s developmental progress with confidence. The programme also covers how to support children with diverse learning needs through child-led approaches and how to integrate Montessori activities into existing school curricula.
