The Career Guidance Unit of the University of Vavuniya successfully organized a Workshop titled“Leadership Lessons from Amazon, Y Combinator, and Meta”on19 December 2025, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., at TLH 2, Faculty of Technological Studies, University of Vavuniya. The session was conducted byMr. Ashwin Balamohan, Engineering Manager at Meta, USA, and Venture Scout at Nanthi Venture, who brought rich global industry exposure and entrepreneurial insight to the discussion. The resource person shared practical leadership lessons drawn from his professional experience and from the organizational cultures of Amazon, Y Combinator, and Meta, three globally influential innovation-driven institutions.

During the lecture, Mr. Balamohan emphasized key leadership principles, including customer obsession, data-driven decision-making, ownership, innovation, adaptability, and long-term vision. He highlighted how Amazon’s leadership principles encourage accountability and continuous improvement, how Y Combinator nurtures founders through experimentation, resilience, and mentorship, and how Meta promotes a culture of rapid innovation, collaboration, and learning from failure. Real-world examples and personal experiences helped students clearly understand how these leadership approaches operate in high-performing technology environments.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging through questions and discussions on career pathways, leadership skills required in the ICT sector, startup ecosystems, and global employment opportunities. The programme significantly enhanced students’ awareness of industry expectations and inspired them to develop leadership mindsets alongside technical competencies.

Overall, the event was a great success and strongly aligned with the Career Guidance Unit’s objective of bridging academia and industry, while motivating ICT undergraduates to aspire toward global standards of leadership and innovation. For this program with 245 students actively participated.
