The University of Vavuniya hosted a workshop on Innovating Ideas and Commercializing Inventions among students on March 02, 2022. The event took place from 12.30 to 4.30 PM at the IT Centre, University of Vavuniya. The Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) and the University Business Linkage Cell (UBLC) of the University of Vavuniya jointly organised this workshop. The Young Inventors’ Club of the University of Vavuniya also supported the event.
Around 100 students attended the workshop in person. They represented the Faculty of Applied Science, the Faculty of Business Studies, and the Faculty of Technological Studies. In addition, several other students joined the workshop online. This broad participation reflected the strong student interest in innovating ideas and commercializing inventions across all three faculties.
Resource persons from SLIC led the sessions throughout the workshop. First, they introduced SLIC and explained its key duties and responsibilities. They then discussed what inventions and innovations are and how they differ from each other. Furthermore, they compared national and international inventions to give participants a broader perspective. They also explained the pathways available to inventors and discussed market needs in detail. Finally, they guided participants on how to commercialise inventions effectively and bring innovative ideas to market.
The workshop on innovating ideas and commercializing inventions gave students a valuable opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals. It encouraged them to think creatively and explore how their ideas can become real-world solutions. Moreover, it connected students with SLIC, opening doors for future collaboration and support in their invention journeys. The University of Vavuniya remains committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among its students through such meaningful events.
