The Advanced Certificate in Women Empowerment in Politics officially began on 11th June 2023 at the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), University of Vavuniya, Park Road, Vavuniya. This important academic event marked the launch of Batch I of an innovative program that aims to strengthen women’s participation in political leadership and decision-making.
Moreover, the program focuses on equipping women with essential knowledge, leadership abilities, and confidence so that they can actively participate in politics, governance, and public administration. In addition, it promotes gender equality and inclusive political representation in Sri Lanka.
The University of Vavuniya organized the inauguration ceremony with great significance. Several distinguished guests attended the event and contributed to its success. These included Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Mr. S. A. Jude Leon, Director of the CDCE, Mrs. S. Mathivathany, Course Coordinator, and Mrs. T. Piranavamalar, Assistant Registrar of the CDCE.
Furthermore, the presence of these academic and administrative leaders highlighted the university’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment through education. During the event, speakers emphasized the urgent need to increase women’s representation in political and leadership roles. As a result, the program received recognition as a meaningful step toward building a more inclusive society.
In addition, the speakers encouraged participants to use this opportunity to develop leadership skills and contribute effectively to national development. They also stressed that education plays a key role in transforming social structures and promoting equality.
