The University of Vavuniya is excited to announce, for the first time, applications for Research Awards for the year 2024. The university presents these awards in the following categories.
Award Categories
- Category 1: Most Outstanding Young Researcher Award (age below 35 years on the closing date of applications)
- Category 2: Most Outstanding Senior Researcher Award (age 35 years or above on the closing date of applications)
- Category 3: Most Outstanding Inventor Award
Terms and Conditions
Eligibility: All permanent staff members of the University of Vavuniya can apply for these research awards.
Period of Award: The committee will consider research publications, patents, and other related achievements published, approved, or obtained between 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2023 for the ‘Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research Excellence – 2024.’
Application Process: Applicants can find the duly filled application form and guidelines on the URC website. Specifically, the application should reach the University Research Committee (URC) on or before 30th June 2024, routed through the Head of the Department and Dean of the Faculty. Additionally, the application must include all necessary documents, including a self-evaluation report prepared according to the guidelines, along with the required evidence.
Additional Requirements: Applicants must maintain updated Google Scholar and ResearchGate profiles, and make them publicly available. Furthermore, they should indicate the Google Scholar ID and relevant web links in the application. The Google Scholar account must also carry email verification from vau.ac.lk.

Additional Conditions
To qualify for the award, applicants must clearly mention their name in the publication alongside the ‘University of Vavuniya’ affiliation. Consequently, the committee will not consider publications without this affiliation for awards.
The committee, appointed by the Vice Chancellor to evaluate applications for the ‘Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research Excellence,’ will make the final decision.
