The Physical Education Unit of the University of Vavuniya successfully organised a Table Tennis Coaching Camp on 26th and 27th July 2025. Sam’s College collaborated in delivering this two-day event at the university’s indoor complex. The camp welcomed students from all faculties, particularly beginners eager to learn the sport.
About the Table Tennis Coaching Camp
The camp aimed to promote table tennis among undergraduates and foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and interest in physical education. It combined introductory coaching sessions with basic umpire training. The programme concluded with a friendly tournament that all participants enjoyed enthusiastically.
Over 40 students from diverse academic backgrounds took part. Many of them were completely new to the sport. An experienced coaching team from Sam’s College delivered the training. Coaches provided personalised attention and professional guidance throughout both days. Every participant gained valuable insight into table tennis techniques and rules.
Umpire Training Component
The umpire training added an important dimension to the Table Tennis Coaching Camp. Students learned the responsibilities of officiating a match. The sessions emphasised fair play, discipline, and respect in sport. This exposure helps students appreciate the game beyond just playing.
Acknowledgement and Sponsorship
The Physical Education Unit expresses sincere gratitude to Mr. Shanmugam Samuel, Founder and CEO of Sam’s College, for his generous sponsorship. His support made the event a great success. It enabled the provision of quality equipment, refreshments, and a comfortable training environment for all participants.
Building a Lasting Partnership
This Table Tennis Coaching Camp strengthened the relationship between Sam’s College and the University of Vavuniya. The collaboration enhanced student engagement in co-curricular activities. It also laid the groundwork for future joint sporting initiatives between the two institutions.
The university remains committed to expanding sporting opportunities for all students through partnerships like this one.
