The University of Vavuniya made history at the Sri Lanka University Games Rugby 2025 tournament. The team competed in three matches across June and July 2025, all held at the University of Peradeniya. The campaign ended with a landmark achievement — the university’s first-ever victory in rugby at the Sri Lanka University Games.
Match 1 – Vavuniya vs Wayamba University
Date: 27th June 2025 Venue: University of Peradeniya
Vavuniya University faced Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in their opening match. Wayamba University won the game, scoring 41 points. Vavuniya University did not score in this match. The team used the experience to build momentum for future fixtures.

Match 2 – Vavuniya vs Kelaniya University
Date: 5th July 2025 Venue: University of Peradeniya
