Sri Lanka University Games 2025 – Cricket

The University of Vavuniya proudly participated in the Sri Lanka University Games 2025 cricket tournament. The matches took place on 12th, 19th, and 26th July 2025 at venues across the island. Our team competed against three universities in a series of hard-fought matches.

Match 1 – Vavuniya vs Sri Jayawardenapura University

Date: 12th July 2025 Venue: Vavuniya University Ground

Sri Jayawardenapura University batted first and scored 201 all out in 42.5 overs. Vavuniya University responded with 98 all out in 39.5 overs.

Result: Sri Jayawardenapura University won by 103 runs.

Match 2 – Vavuniya vs Kelaniya University

Date: 19th July 2025 Venue: University of Kelaniya

Vavuniya University batted first and posted 115 all out in 22.4 overs. Kelaniya University chased the target comfortably, reaching 118/2 in just 13.0 overs.

Result: Kelaniya University won by 8 wickets.

Match 3 – Vavuniya vs Rajarata University

Date: 26th July 2025 Venue: Rajarata University of Sri Lanka

Rajarata University batted first and scored 166 all out in 44.0 overs. Vavuniya University gave a strong chase, finishing at 159 all out in 42.5 overs. The margin was incredibly close.

Result: Rajarata University won by 7 runs.

Key Performances

Mohammed Riwaqi delivered a standout performance across the tournament. He took 6 wickets for just 29 runs in 9 overs and earned the Player of the Match award. His bowling was a highlight of the University of Vavuniya’s campaign in the Sri Lanka University Games 2025.

Reflecting on the Tournament

The University of Vavuniya cricket team showed great determination throughout all three matches. Each game was competitive and closely contested. The squad demonstrated skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship at every stage.
