Certificate in Professional English – Awarding and Inauguration Ceremony

The University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, proudly hosted the second awarding ceremony for the second batch and the inauguration ceremony for the third batch of the Certificate in Professional English course. The event took place on January 26, 2025, at SH 4, University of Vavuniya. The Industry and Community Interaction Cell (ICIC) of the Faculty of Business Studies coordinates the Certificate in Professional English course, in collaboration with the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT).

About the Certificate in Professional English Course

The Certificate in Professional English course is designed to strengthen the English language competency of participants, equipping them with practical communication skills for academic and professional settings. Over the course of the program, students work on speaking, writing, and workplace communication, preparing them for future study and employment opportunities. The course has grown steadily since its introduction, with each batch building on the success of the one before it.

Ceremony Highlights

During the ceremony, the university awarded certificates to 25 students who successfully completed the Certificate in Professional English course. At the same time, 40 new students registered for the third batch, marking the continued popularity of the programme among undergraduates.

Several distinguished guests graced the event. Senior Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University, attended as Chief Guest. Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, joined as Special Guest. Ms. D. Gapila, one of the course resource persons, also attended as a guest.

Mr. S. Sivanenthira, the ICIC Coordinator, and Mr. A. Sebarajah, the course coordinator, attended the ceremony too. Mr. Sebarajah headed and coordinated the programme, and he thanked the resource persons and staff who supported both batches throughout the course.

This ceremony marked an important milestone in the academic journey of the awardees and the incoming batch of students. It reflected the University of Vavuniya’s continued commitment to providing high-quality education and professional development opportunities.
