A visit was conducted on 24th September 2025 to the Centre for Prosthetics at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna. The purpose of this visit was to gather valuable insights that could be applied to improve the services of the Support Centre for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) at the University of Vavuniya.
SCPD Visiting Team
The SCPD visiting team included:
- Mrs. V. Kajanthy – Director, SCPD
- Mr. J. Diroshan – Member, SCPD
- Ms. N. M. P. Rifana – Management Assistant, SCPD
Dr. (Mrs.) T. Thanihaichelvan, Senior Lecturer and Head of Mechanical Engineering, coordinated and facilitated the visit.
During the visit, the team observed the services and facilities available at the Centre for Prosthetics. The Centre supports both university members and the general public who require prosthetic body parts and related assistance.
The team also learned that the Centre works closely with several organizations. Through these partnerships, patients can access advanced prosthetic solutions under different collaborative projects.
The SCPD team held discussions with the Centre staff about future cooperation. Both parties identified several opportunities for collaboration. The Centre agreed to consider referrals from the SCPD. This support will help students and community members from the University of Vavuniya who require prosthetic services.
The Centre also explained that its existing projects could help individuals obtain specialized prosthetic fittings in India. The University of Vavuniya SCPD Prosthetics Centre Visit created valuable opportunities for partnership and knowledge sharing. The experience and insights gained from the visit will help strengthen SCPD services. These improvements will especially benefit people with physical disabilities who require prosthetic interventions.
