Call for Applications for Research Grants – 2024

The University of Vavuniya is now calling for applications for research grants for the year 2024 to promote high-quality research among its staff. The purpose of these research grants is to facilitate innovative and collaborative research. They also aim to ensure that research outcomes benefit national development. Applicants are requested to make maximum use of the grants available through the University of Vavuniya.

  1. Eligibility: Permanent staff members (academics, medical officers, and executives) qualify if they are eligible for research allowance under Establishment Circular No. 5/2014 (i) and 5/2014 (ii), dated 28.05.2014 and 30.05.2014 respectively.
  2. Amount of Fund: Grants provide up to Rs. 0.8 million for STEM disciplines and Rs. 0.3 million for HEMS disciplines. The university may enhance the upper funding limit depending on the significance of the research and fund availability.
  3. Period of Award: The award period is 12 months, with a possible extension of 6 months, subject to satisfactory progress.
  4. Application Process: Applicants can find duly filled application forms on the URC website. They must submit forms through the Head of the Department on or before the deadline, and send a soft copy to urec@vau.ac.lk.
  5. Acceptance: The URC grants acceptance after completing an external review process based on the research’s impact and the proposal’s quality.
  6. Monitoring Progress: Applicants must submit bi-annual progress reports during the award period and submit the final report between 12–15 months.
