University of Vavuniya, organised a workshop on Quality Assurance in Higher Education – A Sri Lankan Perspective on 22 September 2022. Prof. Tilak P D Gamage, Director of the Quality Assurance Council, University Grants Commission (UGC), served as the resource person for this workshop.

Quality Assurance in Higher Education plays a critical role in maintaining academic standards across Sri Lankan universities. It ensures that institutions deliver programmes that meet national and international benchmarks. Furthermore, it builds public trust in the quality of degrees and qualifications that universities award. As a result, universities must actively invest in quality assurance processes at every level of academic and administrative work.

Prof. Tilak P D Gamage brought extensive expertise and experience to the workshop. He leads the Quality Assurance Council at the UGC and has a deep understanding of the Sri Lankan higher education landscape. Moreover, he guided participants through the key principles and practices of quality assurance in the local context. His insights helped staff understand how quality assurance frameworks apply directly to their roles at the University of Vavuniya.

The workshop gave academic and administrative staff a valuable opportunity to strengthen their understanding of Quality Assurance in Higher Education. Participants learned about the policies, procedures, and standards that govern programme quality in Sri Lanka. In addition, they explored how universities can continuously improve their systems to meet evolving quality expectations. Consequently, the session contributed directly to building a stronger culture of quality at the University of Vavuniya.
