University of Vavuniya Welcomes the Newly Appointed Vice Chancellor
The University of Vavuniya welcomed its new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Arulampalam Atputharajah.The Honorable President appointed him under Section 34(1)(a) of the Universities Act No: 16 of 1978, as amended. He officially assumed duties on July 8, 2024. University staff warmly welcomed him on his first day.
The university organized a ceremonial event to mark this milestone. The event took place at 9:00 am on July 8, 2024. The Faculty of Technological Studies lecture hall hosted the ceremony.
The Chancellor, Dr. S. Mohanadas, attended the event. The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, also joined the occasion. Deans of Faculties, the Registrar, the Acting Librarian, and the Bursar were present. University Council members, Heads of Departments, Professors, and Directors of Centers and Units attended as well. Executive Officers, Lecturers, Academic Support Staff, and well-wishers extended their heartfelt congratulations. Everyone wished Professor Arulampalam Atputharajah great success in his new role.
Following the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor held a discussion with senior university leadership. Deans, Heads of Departments, Professors, Directors, and Administrative Officers participated in this meeting. The Boardroom of the IT Centre hosted this important discussion.
Professor Atputharajah brings strong academic expertise to the University of Vavuniya. The university community looks forward to his leadership. His appointment marks a new chapter of academic excellence and institutional growth. The university also thanks the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, for his dedicated service and outstanding contributions.
