Open Chess Championship Vavuniya 2025 – “Battle of Minds”

The Physical Education Unit and Chess Team of the University of Vavuniya organised the Open Chess Championship Vavuniya 2025 on 14th and 15th June 2025. The two-day tournament took place at the Library Building, University of Vavuniya. Furthermore, the event was open to current students, alumni, and staff, making it an inclusive and competitive celebration of chess.

Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, graced the event as Guest of Honour. His presence highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting intellectual and co-curricular activities alongside academic excellence.

Open Chess Championship Vavuniya 2025 – Tournament Categories

The Open Chess Championship Vavuniya featured four competitive categories. In addition, players from all backgrounds competed with outstanding skill and determination across both days of the tournament.
