The Occupational Career Guidance Session held at the University of Vavuniya was organized for graduates and undergraduates interested in foreign employment opportunities. The session took place on 23rd August 2023 at the SH 4 Hall, Soosairatnam Block, University of Vavuniya.
The program aimed to help students understand overseas job markets, required skills, and safe migration pathways. It was conducted with the support of YOULEAD’s Skilled and Resilient Migrant Worker’s (SRMW) project, which promotes responsible migration and career awareness among youth.
Mr. Nirosha Happuharachi, Director of Skills and Guidance, was the main resource person. He, along with other professionals, explained international job trends, legal procedures, and workplace expectations. They also discussed how cultural adaptation plays an important role in working abroad.
These explanations helped students gain a clearer understanding of global career opportunities. They were also able to identify how to prepare for employment in different countries.
The session included group discussions and case-based activities. Students actively participated and discussed real-life employment situations. This helped them improve their decision-making and career planning skills.
The program also encouraged students to think about their future careers in a structured way. It highlighted the importance of guidance before applying for overseas jobs.
Overall, the session successfully supported students in making informed and responsible career decisions related to foreign employment.
