The University of Vavuniya signed an MOU with Yanka Kupala University of Grodno on 20th December 2022. Both universities held an online meeting to formalise this agreement.
Ambassador Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage led the Sri Lankan Embassy delegation. Prof. Thampoe Mangaleswaran, Vice Chancellor, led the University of Vavuniya delegation. Rector Iruna Kiturka led the Yanka Kupala University delegation from Grodno.
Both sides showed strong interest in mutual cooperation. The agreement supports scientific, academic, and professional collaboration. It opens new opportunities for both universities within their academic frameworks.
This was not the first meeting between the two institutions. On 10th July 2022, the Embassy of Sri Lanka to Russia facilitated an earlier meeting. During that meeting, the Sri Lankan side expressed interest in academic mobility. Areas of interest included biology, mathematics, philology, tourism, economics, and international law.
The University of Vavuniya continues to open new faculties and specialties. Joint educational programmes in English and Russian languages represent a promising area of cooperation. Both universities will soon develop a detailed cooperation programme.
