The Media Literacy Journalism Ceremony for Batch I of the Advanced Certificate Programme was successfully held on 28th May 2023 at 9:00 AM. The event took place at the CDCE, University of Vavuniya, Park Road, Vavuniya.
This ceremony marked the official launch of the Advanced Certificate in Media Literacy and Journalism. The programme aims to develop critical media literacy skills and improve understanding of journalism practices among students.
The event brought together students, academic staff, and invited guests. It highlighted the importance of media education and professional development in the field of communication and journalism.
Prof. T. Mangaleswaran, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, attended as a key dignitary. Mr. S. A. Jude Leon, Director of the CDCE, also participated in the ceremony.
In addition, Mrs. S. Mathivathany (Course Coordinator) and Mrs. T. Piranavamalar (Assistant Registrar of the CDCE) joined the event. Their presence added value to the Media Literacy Journalism Ceremony and its academic importance.
The speakers emphasized the importance of media literacy in today’s digital society. They also explained how journalism education builds ethical awareness, communication skills, and critical thinking.
The programme introduced students to the course structure and learning outcomes. As a result, participants gained a clear understanding of their academic journey.
