The University of Vavuniya hosted a Kiriya Yoga workshop on 25th June 2025 from 1.30 PM to 4.30 PM at SH4 Soosairathnam Hall. The event was organised with the participation of Yogi Ram Sunthar, the resource person, along with his three assistants, two school students, the Vice Chancellor, the Well-being Director, and staff and students of the university.

Kiriya Yoga Workshop – Programme Highlights

The workshop began with a welcome address by the Well-being Director. She spoke on the importance of yoga in maintaining mental and physical health, especially for students and academic professionals. Her speech set a meaningful tone for the session. Furthermore, she highlighted yoga as a valuable tool for holistic well-being.

Following the welcome, Yogi Ram Sunthar delivered the keynote speech. He discussed the importance of yoga and gave a motivational talk emphasising five major components:

  • Asana – Postures
  • Pranayama – Breath control
  • Dhyana – Meditation
  • Relaxation
  • Ethical Living

His message inspired everyone to include yoga in their daily routine. In addition, one of his assistants delivered a short speech about yoga principles and benefits, adding depth to the session.

Practical Yoga Session

A practical yoga session followed, during which Yogi Ram Sunthar and his assistants guided participants through various exercises and techniques. The hands-on segment was engaging and gave all attendees direct experience with different aspects of this Kiriya Yoga workshop.

Vice Chancellor’s Address

After the practice session, the Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering. He appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the value of yoga in promoting a healthier campus environment. Consequently, he encouraged all students and staff to regularly engage in yoga for their overall well-being.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the Well-being Director. She expressed gratitude to the resource person, assistants, participants, and organisers.
