The University of Vavuniya achieved a historic milestone at the Inter University Karate Vavuniya Championship 2022. This was the first ever win for the university at an inter-university sports tournament.
The Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association organised the championship. The University of Colombo hosted the event at its Indoor Gymnasium. Competition took place on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th December 2022.
Eight students represented the University of Vavuniya. Three male and five female students competed at the championship. All students showed great dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Mr. Salitha Dilshan Mendis won first place in the Kumite event. He competed in the below 67 kg weight category. He studies at the Faculty of Applied Science with student number 2020/ASB/099.
