The Centre for Quality Assurance and the Staff Development Centre, University of Vavuniya, jointly organised a workshop on Institutional Review on 11th November 2024. The session took place online and introduced participants to the concept and process of institutional review. All academic and non-academic staff of the University of Vavuniya participated in this discussion. Furthermore, Prof. G. Mikunthan, Council nominee to CQA, University of Vavuniya, served as the resource person.
Institutional Review is a systematic process that helps universities evaluate their overall performance and identify areas for improvement. It examines the effectiveness of academic programmes, administrative systems, and support services. Moreover, it ensures that universities meet national quality standards and fulfil their institutional missions. As a result, the institutional review process plays a vital role in driving continuous improvement across all areas of university operations.
Prof. G. Mikunthan guided participants through the key principles and steps involved in the institutional review process. His role as Council nominee to the Centre for Quality Assurance gave him a strong understanding of quality assurance requirements at the University of Vavuniya. In addition, his guidance helped staff appreciate how institutional review connects to the broader quality assurance framework of Sri Lankan universities.
The participation of all academic and non-academic staff made this institutional review workshop especially meaningful. It ensured that every member of the university community understood their role in supporting the review process. Furthermore, it created a shared sense of responsibility for maintaining and improving institutional quality. Consequently, the workshop strengthened the university’s collective commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and administration.
