The Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Batch II was successfully held on 07th September 2025 at 10:00 AM. The event took place at the Smart Lecture Hall, Faculty of Applied Science, Pambaimadu, University of Vavuniya. Moreover, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Batch II marked an important step in strengthening early childhood education in Sri Lanka.
The programme welcomed a new group of students who aspire to become qualified early childhood educators. In addition, the event reflected the university’s commitment to quality teacher education and professional development.
Distinguished Guests at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Batch II
Several distinguished guests attended the Inauguration Ceremony Senior Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, attended as the chief guest. In addition, Mr. S. A. Jude Leon, Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), participated in the ceremony.
Furthermore, other notable guests included Eng. M. Sooriasegaram, President of the Education Development Consortium, and Mr. Muralitharan, Assistant Director of Education (Pre-School), Vavuniya North. Dr. S. Shanmugathasan, Academic Coordinator, and Ms. Y. Vithushana, Assistant Registrar of CDCE, also joined the event.
Importance of Early Childhood Education
During the ceremony, speakers emphasized the importance of early childhood education in shaping the future of society. Moreover, they encouraged students to develop strong professional skills, creativity, and responsibility in their teaching practice.
In addition, they explained how trained educators can positively influence children during their early development stages. Therefore, the diploma programme aims to prepare students for successful careers in the education sector.
Objectives of the Diploma Programme
The Diploma in Early Childhood Education programme provides both academic knowledge and practical training in child development and preschool education. Furthermore, students gain hands-on experience through classroom activities and guided learning sessions.
In addition, the programme helps students develop communication, leadership, and classroom management skills. As a result, graduates become competent and compassionate early childhood educators.
