A New Beginning for Future Educators

The University of Vavuniya successfully held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education – Batch II on 07th September 2025 at 10:00 AM. The event took place at the Smart Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Applied Science, Pambaimadu.

The ceremony marked another important step in promoting early childhood education in Sri Lanka. Moreover, the programme welcomed a new group of students who hope to become qualified early childhood educators.

Distinguished Guests at the Ceremony

Several distinguished guests attended the inauguration ceremony. Senior Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, participated as a chief guest. In addition, Mr. S. A. Jude Leon, Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), attended the event.

Other notable guests included Eng. M. Sooriasegaram, President of the Education Development Consortium, and Mr. Muralitharan, Assistant Director of Education (Pre-School), Vavuniya North. Furthermore, Dr. S. Shanmugathasan, Academic Coordinator, and Ms. Y. Vithushana, Assistant Registrar of CDCE, also took part in the programme.

Importance of Early Childhood Education

During the ceremony, the speakers highlighted the value of early childhood education in modern society. They encouraged students to improve their professional knowledge and teaching skills. In addition, they emphasized the importance of creativity, care, and responsibility in preschool education.

The speakers also explained how trained educators can positively influence children during their early years. Therefore, the diploma programme aims to prepare students for successful careers in the education sector.

Objectives of the Diploma Programme

The Diploma in Early Childhood Education programme provides academic knowledge and practical training in child development and preschool education. Furthermore, students gain hands-on experience through classroom activities and guided learning methods.
