The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between the University Business Linkages (UBL) of the University of Vavuniya and Lanka Impact Investing Network Pvt. Ltd. (LIIN) was held on 24th April 2025.

The event took place at the IT Centre Board Room, University of Vavuniya. The partnership focuses on implementing the “GRIT – Empower Pengal” programme.

The programme aims to build a gender-responsive entrepreneurial ecosystem. It also focuses on empowering women entrepreneurs in Northern Sri Lanka.

Ceremony Highlights

The ceremony began with a welcome address and traditional oil lamp lighting. These activities symbolized unity and new beginnings.

Mr. Chandula Abayawikrama, Chairman of LIIN, addressed the gathering. He emphasized collaboration, innovation, and sustainability.

Mr. Vishwarth Ganeswardana, General Manager of LIIN, also shared his views on the partnership.

University representatives presented research findings on challenges faced by women entrepreneurs. They also highlighted the role of technology in entrepreneurship development.

Objectives of the MOU

The MOU establishes a long-term collaboration between both institutions. It focuses on empowering women entrepreneurs through structured support programmes.

LIIN will provide training, mentorship, and entrepreneur selection support. It will also support investment readiness activities.

In addition, LIIN will organize events such as Pitch Contests and the Emerging Women Summit.

The collaboration will provide access to investment opportunities for high-performing entrepreneurs.

Selected participants will also be guided to advanced platforms such as the “On Eagles Wings” initiative. This programme follows a model similar to Shark Tank.

Furthermore, LIIN will monitor and evaluate programme outcomes. It will ensure continuous improvement and impact assessment.

Media and Visibility Support

The partnership also includes structured media and visibility support.

Programme activities will be promoted through social media, events, and publications. All content will be reviewed and approved by the University of Vavuniya.
