On December 3, 2024, the Department of Bioscience, Faculty of Applied Science, University of Vavuniya, successfully hosted the Food Fest 2024 Vavuniya near the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL). Second-year Bioscience students organized this vibrant event in collaboration with the Environmental Science Society, as part of the course ENS 2123 – Food, Nutrition, and Environment.

Ms. K.G.S. Madhushani (Practical In-Charge) coordinated the activity. Furthermore, Dr. (Mrs.) J. Nimalan, Lecturer In-Charge, guided the students throughout the preparation process.

About Food Fest 2024 Vavuniya

The Food Fest 2024 Vavuniya focused on promoting healthy, homemade food choices and raising awareness of the nutritional benefits of pulses and legumes. Students prepared and served a variety of wholesome, delicious treats:

  • Healthy Salad 
  • Corn Soup 
  • Magic Corn 
  • Popcorn 
  • Cassava Chips 
  • Boiled Cassava 

Overwhelming Community Response

This food stall event attracted an enthusiastic response from staff and students across all three faculties of the University of Vavuniya. The lively atmosphere reflected the strong community spirit and the value placed on practical, hands-on academic learning.

A Meaningful Cause

All proceeds from the event will be dedicated entirely to the Annual Nutritional Assessment Programme for Preschool Students – ensuring the funds go toward a truly impactful community initiative.

This initiative beautifully demonstrated how academic learning can be integrated with real-world applications. The success of this food stall is a testament to the dedication of the Bioscience students and the unwavering support of the entire university community.
