Disability inclusion in higher education is an important goal for universities. It ensures equal learning opportunities for all students. Collaboration between institutions helps improve accessibility. It also supports the development of better learning resources.

On 5th June 2023, Dr. Jennifer George, Head of the Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, visited the University of Vavuniya. The purpose of the visit was to support the development of online resources on disability inclusion. She worked with a subject expert to identify existing materials. They also discussed areas where new resources are needed.

The focus of the discussion was to build a better understanding of different disabilities. These include sensory disabilities and learning difficulties. Understanding these needs is important for inclusive education. It helps universities design better learning environments for all students.

Technology was also an important part of the discussion. Digital tools can support students with disabilities. Examples include screen readers, caption tools, and adaptive learning systems. These tools help remove barriers in education. They also improve student independence and participation.

The long-term goal is to create a fully inclusive institution. This means accessibility should be part of every system. It includes teaching methods, learning materials, and university policies. Staff training is also an important part of this process.
