Cricket Encounter – University of Vavuniya with Old Boys

The University of Vavuniya Cricket Team secured an impressive 99-run victory over the Old Boys UOV Cricket Team in a friendly 50-over one-day match held on 26 July 2026.

After winning the toss, the University of Vavuniya elected to bat first and posted a competitive total of 231 runs in 44.0 overs. The innings was anchored by an outstanding performance from Janith Dayarathna, who scored 54 runs off 73 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. Valuable contributions were also made by Rashan Wijerathna (41 runs off 58 balls), Nharthanan (35 runs off 38 balls), and Ishara (35 runs off 18 balls), helping the team build a challenging target.

For the Old Boys UOV side, Dhanushka Lakmal and Muditha Bimsara were the standout bowlers, each claiming three wickets, while Isuru Lakmal contributed with one wicket.

In reply, Old Boys UOV were bowled out for 132 runs in 23.4 overs, despite a spirited innings of 46 runs from 35 balls by Ruchira Jayamanna. Contributions from Dinuka Erangajith (19 runs) and Isuru Lakmal (18 runs) were not enough to steer the team towards the target.

The University of Vavuniya bowlers delivered an exceptional performance to seal the victory. Ragulan led the attack with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 33 runs, while Janith Dayarathna completed a remarkable all-round display by claiming 3 wickets for 17 runs. Krishnan Kirubagaran and Nharthanan also added a wicket each to ensure the opposition was restricted well below the target.

With this comprehensive victory, the University of Vavuniya Cricket Team demonstrated excellent teamwork, discipline, and determination. The match also provided valuable competitive exposure and highlighted the continued development and strength of cricket at the University of Vavuniya.
