The court opening at Vavuniya University on 31 October 2023 was a landmark moment for campus sports. The University of Vavuniya inaugurated both newly renovated badminton courts and a new basketball court during this ceremony.
Prof. T. Mangaleswaran (Vice Chancellor), Mr. Kushil Gunasekara (Founder and Chief Trustee of the Foundation of Goodness), and Dr. Malathi Waran (Director of Vanni Hope) presided over the event. The Vanni Hope Foundation fully sponsored the badminton courts, while the Foundation of Goodness facilitated the project. Prof. T. Mangaleswaran and Mr. Kushil Gunasekara played the first symbolic match together on the new court.
The Tonato Foundation sponsored the basketball court. Mr. Tharindu Fernando (Coach of the Sri Lankan Basketball Team) and Ms. Epciba Washington Clay (Sri Lankan Basketball Team member) joined the Vice Chancellor and Mr. Gunasekara for the basketball court opening at Vavuniya University. The university basketball team held exhibition matches afterward, with Ms. Epciba Washington Clay also participating.
The Foundation of Goodness donated basketballs, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, and books to the university. Prof. T. Mangaleswaran and university staff received the donations with gratitude. This court opening at Vavuniya marks a major step in developing sports facilities for students.
