About us

The Northern Province Affiliated University College (NPAUC) was established in 1991. It was upgraded to the Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna in 1997, and later became the University of Vavuniya on August 1, 2021. Students from all parts of the country are admitted here.

At the University of Vavuniya, academic programs include research that is closely linked to industry needs. The university believes that education and research must be connected to societal demands to be truly effective. To foster innovative research benefiting society, the university established the University Business Linkage (UBL) Cell on October 1, 2021, following the University Grants Commission directive (Circular No. 10/2016).

The UBL encourages staff and students to convert research outcomes into useful products and services that benefit society. In addition, it aims to enhance the economic potential of the community through applied research. It also supports local businesses by linking them to university research and innovations. Furthermore, the Business Clinic offers expert advice to businesses in need, particularly startups and those facing challenges due to rapid changes in social, economic, environmental, and political factors. The clinic operates from Park Road, University of Vavuniya, a key transit point connecting the northern and other provinces. As a result, it offers unique business opportunities and challenges.

The Business Clinic offers the necessary support and information to the local community, including young graduates, school leavers, existing business owners, and individuals interested in starting a new business. In particular, it facilitates discussions on business risks, national issues, and potential solutions. As a result, the community can strengthen its competencies to manage changes in the socio-economic, environmental, and politico-legal spheres. Moreover, the Clinic focuses on building entrepreneurial skills, offers guidance, and assists in business creation and development.

The Business Clinic will also engage in international collaboration and provide advocacy and consultancy services to support long- lasting, transformative change in the business community.

Objective

Increase university-industry collaborations through consultancy while maintaining confidentiality.
Share research outcomes to benefit local businesses and society.
Support recent graduates and school leavers in starting their own businesses.
Improve entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial skills in the business community.
Assist startups with innovations and new creations.
Form partnerships with enterprises and experts as needed.
Provide product testing and standardization services.

- Business, marketing, human resource management, production, supply chain, sustainability, accounting, finance, project management, and business tax.
- Data analytics, digital technology, and IT system development.
- Food science, startups, security, and product development.
- Crop and livestock production, resource conservation.
- Hazard and solid waste management, wastewater treatment.
- Carbon sequestration and carbon crediting.
- Business plan development.
- Environmental studies, including Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and Environmental Impact Assessment.
- Industry and wildlife conflict management.
- Business communication and English.
Advisory Members

The Business Clinic draws on senior academics and experts affiliated with the University of Vavuniya. The UBL Cell assigns experts based on requirements, with approval from the UBL Advisory Board.

Physical Resources
1. The Business Clinic operates from a dedicated workspace at Park Road, University of Vavuniya.
2. The UBL organizes meetings and consultations in suitable settings.
Consultancy Fees
- Minimum fee: Rs. 2,000 per 30 minutes.
- The consultant (academic staff) receives 75% of the consultancy fee.
- UBL retains the remaining 25%.
Consultancy Schedule
- Consultancy services run Monday to Saturday, 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
- Location: Park Road, University of Vavuniya.
- Clients must book appointments one week in advance by phone or email with the UBL Manager.
