The University of Vavuniya Students’ Union, in collaboration with the Physical Education Unit, organized the “Battle of Brothers” Cricket and Football Tournament on 25th and 26th October 2025 at the University Playground. Students from three faculties participated: the Faculty of Business Studies, the Faculty of Applied Science, and the Faculty of Technological Studies.
The opening ceremony took place on 25th October 2025, and the Vice Chancellor attended as the Chief Guest.
During the two days, preliminary cricket and football matches were held between the three faculty teams. As the tournament progressed, the competition became more intense and engaging.
In the cricket final, the Faculty of Technological Studies faced the Faculty of Business Studies. Batting first, the Faculty of Technological Studies scored 119 runs for 5 wickets in 15 overs. In reply, the Faculty of Business Studies struggled and scored only 67 runs with 7 wickets down. Consequently, the Faculty of Technological Studies won the cricket championship.
Due to time limitations, the football matches did not proceed as full games. Instead, the teams moved directly to penalty shootouts. In the final, the Faculty of Business Studies competed against the Faculty of Applied Science. The Faculty of Business Studies performed strongly and scored 4 goals, while the Faculty of Applied Science scored 2 goals. As a result, the Faculty of Business Studies secured the football title.
At the end of the tournament, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Professor A. Atputharajah, presented trophies to the winners. He was joined by Dr. K. Arjunan (Proctor), Mr. S. Suman (Marshal), and Mr. R. Sivasegaran (Acting Director of the Physical Education Unit)
