APPRA 2024 Conference: Digital Transformation and AI for Peace
The APPRA 2024 Conference brought together leading voices in peace research, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. Delegates came from across the globe. Hosted at the Harmony Centre, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, this landmark event explored how emerging technologies can sustain peace and democracy. About the APPRA 2024 Conference
The Asia-Pacific Peace Research Association (APPRA) organised the APPRA 2024 Conference in collaboration with two key partners: the Harmony Centre of the University of Vavuniya and the Gate Institute (UK). Together, they shaped the conference theme: “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence for Sustaining Peace and Democracy.” As a result, the event drew a truly international audience. It ran from 7–10 March 2024 at the University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka.
A Global Platform for Peace and Innovation
The APPRA 2024 Conference served as a powerful platform for dialogue and networking. In total, more than 250 participants attended. Among them were prominent scholars, civil society activists, human rights advocates, and peace practitioners. In addition, subject matter experts from diverse regions contributed their perspectives. Consequently, the event fostered rich, interdisciplinary exchange across borders and disciplines.
Discussions centred on the role of artificial intelligence in addressing threats to democracy. Moreover, participants examined how digital innovation can support sustainable peace-building efforts in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Notably, several sessions highlighted real-world case studies from conflict-affected communities. Thus, the conference linked theoretical research directly to practical solutions.
