The University of Vavuniya opened the Russian Language Culture Centre in collaboration with I.Y. Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical University, Russia. The centre officially launched on 15th March 2023 at 9.00 AM. The ceremony took place at the Board Room of the University of Vavuniya.

Distinguished delegates from Russia attended the event. Prof. Vladimir Nikolaevich Ivanov, Acting Rector, led the Russian delegation. Senior Lecturer Igor Vladimirovich Kozhanav, Vice Rector for Scientific and Innovative Work, also attended. Mr. Alexander Alekseevich Kirillov, Head of the Department for Scientific and Innovative Work, joined the ceremony as well.

The event began with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Welcome speeches followed, and the Vice Chancellor delivered an address. Both universities signed a roadmap for future cooperation. This signing marked a significant step in international academic collaboration. Vanni Vogue Club captured the photographs of this historic occasion.

The Russian Language Culture Centre gives students opportunities to learn the Russian language. Students can also explore Russian culture, history, and literature. This centre strengthens ties between Sri Lanka and Russia in higher education. Students can benefit from exchange programmes and scholarships. Joint research initiatives with Chuvash State Pedagogical University, Russia are also available.
